Poe, Born in Boston, Immortalized in Baltimore

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

John Parks

It’s what every writer’s dream is, acquire a living doing what he/she loves best, writing. Edgar Allen Poe, Baltimore’s beloved writer did just that, although his first piece was written and published anonymously. He was brother to William and Rosalie Poe. Edgar Poe would later adapt the full study Edgar Allen Poe, taking the Allen study given to him by the family that would raise him after his parent’s passing at a young age. Poe attended the University of Virginia, a school founded by Thomas Jefferson. His stint in the university would not last long as vices such as gambling and drinking would catch up to him. Poe would come to blame his foster family for not continuing his education, claiming they did not support him, but his addictions were probably that which did him in. Following these accusations he and the family would become estranged. It was because of those addictions, that the troubled Poe would lose his soon to be wife, the beautiful Sarah Elmira Royster.

John Parks

In the history of Barbados there may not have been a more dominant voice of freedom then the Barbados captive (formerly of Africa) Bussa. Bussa was captured and brought to the island of Barbados by force where he was enslaved in the 18th century on the Barleys plantation. Bussa was the leader of one of the first slave revolts of Barbados in years. He literally fought for the slaves as leader of the revolt back in 1816. The revolt pitted imprisoned slaves against the bigots and plantation owners of Barbados. Bussa’s drive, fight and determination lead him to derive a great plan for freedom. Bussa’s great involvement in the harsh defiance of dominance led the Barbados revolt, later to be known as Bussa’s Rebellion.

Adaptability: Why it is Essential to Internet Marketing

M. A. Williams

We’ve all heard the saying, “It’s just a phase.” Though these words may render images of teenage girls with purple hair or middle aged men who insist on getting an earring, phases are certainly not limited to people. From music to movies, from the economy to business trends, everything comes in phases. This is particularly true in regards to the Internet.

It’s cushy to see that the Internet of ten years ago is drastically different than the one today, but you don’t have to look a decade back to see the change. The Internet from a year ago, a week ago, even a day ago are all different. The Internet is perhaps the most fickle place on Earth.

Tango: The History of Argentina’s Dance

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

John Parks

In the brothels and slums of nineteenth century Buenos Aires, a fusion of Spanish, Uruguayan, and African diversion and music styles created the tango, the famous and sensual diversion of Argentina.

It was a social dance, based heavily on improvisation and formed around close, almost intimate interaction; the communication between partners must be impeccable, because the diversion has no set patterns and no “basic step” from which to build. However, it was not necessarily a sensual or sexual expression; there were men-only tango clubs.

Why Are Car Covers Needed?

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Ryan Draving

No matter where you live your car is going to experience the weather and that means several major contributors to the deterioration of the look of your automobile’s bodywork can get to work; the sun and the rain are the two major ones but there are also instances of frost alteration too.

Obviously, the best place to house a car when it isn’t being used is inside a garage or fixed shelter but that is not always doable and in fact most cars and vehicles are kept outside in the elements often for months at a time. This is not good news for your bodywork or the car generally so at least make an effort to get the vehicle under cover which means you need a car cover that is both rain and sun resistant.

Whether you’ve lost your job or lost your shirt through the stock market, the present economy has prefabricated for trying times. No one knows this better than business owners.

With so many people just trying to get by, expenses are cut. Magazine subscriptions aren’t renewed, DSL services are downgraded, spas and pedicures are thrown out the window, and time is spent looking for employment instead of things to buy. This causes businesses, whether corporate or home based, to all suffer.

Duncan Seth-Smith

Lincoln has a number of major tourist attractions, the main one being that Lincoln is the capital of Lincolnshire. Lincolnshire is one the biggest counties in England and is a key shire county. Despite the impression that most people have Lincolnshire is far from flat. True, out towards the easterly coast and the Wash, the county is flat due to the land being reclaimed from the sea. However as you go inland towards Stamford and Grantham the county becomes underrating. The further north of the county you go the hillier it becomes. Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln Castle are high on a hill overlooking the City of Lincoln.
