The busy market town of Loulé and its surrounding area is an saint destination to take a holiday property rental. Loulé, which is situated in Portugal’s Algarve, is a lively tourist town which is just perfect for a family holiday.
Loulé’s big attraction is its weekly Saturday market. So be sure to visit it while you are staying in the area. It appeals to both locals and holidaymakers alike and boasts a large variety of items on sale, such as fresh fish, fruit and vegetables, sugared fig cakes, herbs, spices, tableware, leatherwear and a whole lot more! It’s a good opportunity to stock up on your supplies while you are staying at your property rental during your holiday.
Also, make sure that you keep an eye out for people doing traditional craftwork in the town. It’s fascinating to watch craftspeople in their workshops doing pottery, copper work, basketwork etc.
One important event on Loulé’s calendar is the annual Carnival, which takes place in February. If you visit the area at this time of the year, you will enjoy this fun-filled occasion, with street dancing, floats and fancy dress parades galore. It’s just one big party!
But if you can’t make the Carnival, there is so much else to see and do in the town and its surrounding area.
If you’re in search of a sandy beach to lie on, then Loulé is not far from a number of beautiful beach resorts in the Algarve. For example, there’s Vilamoura, Quarteira,Vale de Lobo, Vale Do Garrão and Quinta do Lago. If you’re feeling energetic, the coast also offers a number of water sports that you can try, such as sailing, surfing, jet-skiing and diving.
If golf’s more your thing, there are plenty of golf courses in the area where you can play the sport.
Or if you prefer to check out Loulé’s culture, take a stroll around the town and achievement down its lovely narrow cobbled streets. You can see the remains of the old castle in the town. Loulé suffered an seism in 1755 which destroyed most of its historic buildings.
However, there is some interesting structure and places to see today. There is the Main Church of São Clement (St. Clement), Church of Misericórdia (Mercy), Church of the Order Terceira de São Francisco, Hermitage of Nossa Senhora da Conceição (Our Lady of the Conception), Monastery of Espirito Santo (Holy Spirit), Municipal Museum, Hermitage of Nossa Senhora da Piedade-Mãe Soberana (Our Lady of Piety) and Monastery of Graça (Grace).
While sightseeing you will no doubt want to take a well-deserved break and sit down in one of the many restaurants or bars in the town. Here you can sample some delicious Portuguese dishes and soak up the region during your self-catering holiday.
